If you need help with something else, email us at info@sabunyapimi.com.

Soap Making

What do I need to start making soap?

The materials depend on the method you choose. For a melt-and-pour project, you will generally need a soap base, a suitable mould and any colour or fragrance you wish to add. For cold-process soap, you will need oils, sodium hydroxide (NaOH), water, accurate measuring equipment and appropriate protective gear.

If you are new to soap making, start with a method and recipe that you can follow step by step. Check the contents of any kit before ordering so you know what is included and what you will need to supply yourself.

What is the difference between melt-and-pour and cold-process soap?

Melt-and-pour starts with a prepared soap base. You melt the base, add suitable ingredients according to its instructions, pour it into a mould and allow it to set.

Cold-process soap is made by reacting oils with a carefully calculated amount of sodium hydroxide solution. It requires accurate measurements, protective equipment and time for the finished soap to cure.

Can I make real soap without lye?

Lye is used to turn oils and fats into soap through a process called saponification. A melt-and-pour base has already undergone that process, so you do not need to handle lye yourself when using it.

What is the difference between NaOH and KOH?

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is generally used for solid bar soap. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) is generally used for liquid soap. They require different calculations and cannot be exchanged gram for gram in a recipe.

How do I calculate the correct amount of lye?

The required amount depends on the weight and saponification value, or SAP value, of each oil in your recipe. The calculation also takes your chosen superfat percentage into account.

Use a reliable lye calculator, enter each oil by weight and select the correct type of lye. Check every ingredient and amount again before starting your batch. If you use KOH, also check whether your calculator accounts for the purity stated by your supplier.

What does “superfat” mean?

Superfat is the percentage of oils intentionally left unsaponified by using less lye than the amount calculated for complete saponification. The percentage you choose affects the finished soap, so select one that suits your recipe and soap-making method.

Is it safe to make soap at home?

Soap making can be done at home when you use an appropriate method and follow its safety instructions. Lye is corrosive and must be handled carefully. Wear suitable eye protection and gloves, work in a ventilated area, and keep children and pets away from your workspace.

When preparing a lye solution, add lye slowly to water—never pour water onto lye. Follow the instructions for your materials and equipment, and do not use aluminium containers or utensils with a lye solution.

Can I use any oil in a soap recipe?

Different oils contribute different properties to soap, including firmness, lather and cleansing performance. Changing an oil changes the amount of lye required. Whenever you substitute an oil or change its weight, recalculate the full recipe before making it.

When should I add fragrance or essential oils?

The right time depends on your method and the fragrance you are using. For melt-and-pour soap, follow the soap base and fragrance instructions. For cold-process soap, fragrances are commonly added after the oils and lye solution have been combined.

Check that the fragrance is suitable for soap making and follow its recommended usage rate. Some fragrances can change how quickly a cold-process mixture thickens.

How can I colour handmade soap?

You can use colourants intended for your soap-making method, including suitable pigments, clays and other soap colourants. Results can vary with the base oils, fragrance, amount used and curing process. Always check a colourant’s instructions and begin with a small test batch when trying something new.

Using and Storing Handmade Soap

How long does cold-process soap need to cure?

Curing time depends on the recipe, bar size and storage conditions. Many cold-process recipes call for several weeks of curing. Follow the guidance for the specific recipe you are using; a firm surface alone does not necessarily mean the soap has finished curing.

How should I store soap-making ingredients?

Follow the storage instructions on each product’s packaging. As a general rule, keep oils, fragrances, colourants and bases properly closed and away from unsuitable heat, light or moisture. Store lye securely, in its original labelled container and out of reach of children and pets.

How should I store finished handmade soap?

Keep finished bars in a cool, dry place. During curing, allow air to circulate around the bars. After the soap is ready for use, a draining soap dish can help the bar dry between uses.

Does a natural ingredient mean a product is suitable for everyone?

No. Natural ingredients and essential oils can still cause sensitivity or allergic reactions. Read the ingredient information for every material you use and avoid ingredients you know you are sensitive to. If you are making soap for someone else, consider their preferences and known sensitivities as well.

Orders and Payments

How do I place an order?

Choose your products, select any available options and add them to your cart. At checkout, enter your contact and delivery information, review the total price and complete payment using one of the methods shown.

Do I need an account to order?

The available checkout options will be shown when you place your order. Please check that your email address and telephone number are correct when placing your order.

Shipping and Delivery

When will my order be dispatched?

We generally aim to hand available products to the carrier within 1–3 business days after order confirmation. Orders placed on weekends or public holidays are processed on a business day. The delivery information shown for your order at checkout applies.

How much does shipping cost?

The shipping charge, if any, is shown before you confirm your order. It may depend on the order contents and delivery address. If a free-shipping offer applies, the checkout total will reflect it.

Which courier will deliver my order?

The carrier or delivery method available for your order will be shown during checkout or provided in your dispatch information.

How can I track my order?

If tracking is available for your shipment, we will provide the tracking details after dispatch. You can use them to follow the delivery through the carrier.

What should I do if my parcel arrives damaged or something is missing?

Email info@sabunyapimi.com with your order number and a description of the problem. Photos of the parcel, packaging and products can help us investigate quickly. Please keep the packaging until the issue has been reviewed.

Returns and Refunds

Can I return a product if I change my mind?

For eligible consumer purchases, you may exercise your 14-day right of withdrawal after receiving the product, without giving a reason. Certain legal exceptions apply, including to some personalised products and products whose protective packaging has been opened and which are unsuitable for return for health or hygiene reasons.

A product is not automatically excluded because it is a soap-making ingredient or was purchased at a discount. See our Refund and Returns Policy for details.

How do I request a return?

Email info@sabunyapimi.com within the applicable period. Include your name, order number and the product you wish to return. We will send you the return address and shipping instructions. After notifying us of your withdrawal, return the product within the period required by law.

Who pays for return shipping?

For an eligible withdrawal, you will not be charged for using the return carrier identified in the information provided before purchase. If no return carrier was identified, the applicable consumer rules on return shipping apply. Contact us for instructions before sending your parcel.

If we sent a defective or incorrect product, we will cover the necessary return shipping costs.

When will I receive my refund?

We issue eligible refunds within the period required by law, using a method appropriate to your original payment method. When that period begins depends on whether the product has been dispatched and how it is returned. Your bank or payment provider may need additional time to display the refund in your account.

What if I received the wrong or a defective product?

Contact info@sabunyapimi.com with your order number and details of the issue. We will review it and arrange an appropriate remedy in accordance with your consumer rights.

Contact

Still have a question?
