Lavender Cold Process Soap Making Kit

Create Beautiful Handmade Lavender Soap from Scratch

The Lavender Cold Process Soap Making Kit is designed for anyone who wants to create aromatic, decorative and professional-looking handmade lavender soap using the traditional cold process method.

The set combines a balanced vegetable oil blend with lavender essential oil, ultramarine purple pigment and dried lavender to create soap bars with a distinctive floral aroma and elegant lavender-inspired appearance.

The included oil and sodium hydroxide quantities are pre-calculated for the intended formulation, making the kit a practical starting point for soap makers who understand basic cold process safety.

What’s Included?

920 g Pre-Blended Soap-Making Oils

The oil blend contains:

  • Olive oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Castor oil

Each oil contributes different characteristics to the finished soap.

Olive Oil

Olive oil contributes to:

  • Mild cleansing
  • Creamy lather
  • Smooth soap texture
  • Traditional handmade soap character

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil helps provide:

  • Bar hardness
  • Cleansing power
  • Larger bubbles
  • Improved lather

Castor Oil

Castor oil is commonly used in smaller amounts to support:

  • Foam stability
  • Creamier lather
  • Improved bubble structure

Together, the three oils create a balanced base suitable for cold process soap production.

131 g Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)

Sodium hydroxide is the alkali required for the saponification reaction that transforms the oils into soap.

The supplied quantity is calculated for the included oil blend and should not be altered unless the complete formula is recalculated.

5 g Sodium Lactate

Sodium lactate is included to support:

  • Faster initial hardening
  • Easier unmolding
  • Cleaner cutting
  • Improved early bar firmness

It does not replace proper curing.

20 ml Lavender Essential Oil

The kit includes 100% lavender essential oil, which provides the finished soap with its characteristic floral, herbal and fresh aromatic profile.

Lavender essential oil is one of the most popular aromatic ingredients used in handmade soap.

Its final usage level should always remain within appropriate cosmetic safety limits.

5 g Ultramarine Purple Pigment

Ultramarine purple pigment can be used to create a soft lavender-inspired color in the finished soap.

Depending on the amount used, you can produce:

  • Pale lavender
  • Medium purple
  • Darker violet tones

For best results, disperse the pigment before incorporating it into the soap batter to reduce clumping and uneven color.

Dried Lavender

Dried lavender can be used as a decorative botanical element.

It works particularly well as a surface decoration for artisan soap bars.

Dried lavender placed inside cold process soap may darken or turn brown over time due to the alkaline environment, so using it primarily on the surface often produces a more attractive result.

What Can You Make With This Kit?

Classic Lavender Soap

Create a simple lavender-colored bar scented with lavender essential oil.

Purple Artisan Soap

Use ultramarine pigment to create distinctive purple soap bars.

Lavender Swirl Soap

Separate the soap batter into colored and uncolored portions to create:

  • Swirls
  • Marble effects
  • Two-tone designs
  • Layered soaps

Botanical Lavender Soap

Add a small amount of dried lavender to the top of the soap for a rustic handmade appearance.

Handmade Gift Soap

Once fully cured, lavender soap bars can be wrapped and decorated for:

  • Gift sets
  • Weddings
  • Events
  • Boutique collections
  • Seasonal gift boxes

Lavender Essential Oil in Soap Making

Lavender essential oil is particularly popular because its floral and herbal profile works well in many soap concepts.

It can be used alone or blended with oils such as:

  • Lemon
  • Rosemary
  • Peppermint
  • Eucalyptus
  • Orange

In cold process soap, essential oil performance can vary depending on the formula and curing conditions.

For professional production, fragrance materials should be measured by weight rather than only by drops.

Benefits of Ultramarine Pigment

Ultramarine pigments are widely used in soap and cosmetic applications because they provide stable and attractive colors when used appropriately.

In this kit, ultramarine purple can help create:

  • Lavender-colored soap
  • Purple swirls
  • Layered designs
  • Decorative contrast

The pigment should be dispersed properly before use.

Adding dry pigment directly to thick soap batter can result in visible clumps or speckles.

Dried Lavender in Cold Process Soap

Dried lavender provides a beautiful visual identity but should be used carefully.

It can be added:

  • As a soap topping
  • Sparingly inside decorative layers
  • Around the surface after pouring

Because dried botanicals react visually with alkaline soap, discoloration can occur during curing.

For the most consistent appearance, using dried lavender mainly as a surface decoration is recommended.

Is Lavender Soap Suitable for Sensitive Skin?

Suitability depends on the complete finished formulation and the individual user.

Lavender essential oil and dried botanicals may not be appropriate for every sensitive skin type.

Dried lavender particles may also create physical friction.

For products intended for sensitive skin, formulation testing and appropriate cosmetic safety evaluation are recommended.

Cold Process Soap Making

This kit uses the cold process soap-making method.

Cold process soap is made by reacting oils with a carefully measured sodium hydroxide solution.

Because sodium hydroxide is corrosive before the reaction is complete, strict safety precautions are required.

How to Use

1. Prepare Your Workspace

Before starting:

  • Wear chemical-resistant gloves.
  • Wear protective goggles.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Keep children and pets away.
  • Use alkali-resistant equipment.
  • Prepare all ingredients before beginning.

2. Prepare the Oils

Place the supplied oil blend into a suitable container.

Warm gently if required until all oils are fully liquid and uniform.

Avoid unnecessary overheating.

3. Prepare the Lye Solution

Use the exact water quantity specified in the validated recipe supplied with the kit.

Slowly add sodium hydroxide to the water while stirring carefully.

Always add sodium hydroxide to water. Never pour water directly onto sodium hydroxide.

The solution will become very hot because the process is exothermic.

Allow it to cool in a safe and well-ventilated location.

4. Add Sodium Lactate

Once the lye solution has cooled sufficiently, add the sodium lactate according to the supplied recipe.

Mix carefully until evenly distributed.

5. Combine the Oil and Lye Phases

When the oils and lye solution are within the recommended working temperature range, carefully combine them.

6. Blend to Trace

Use a stick blender in short pulses, alternating with manual stirring.

Continue until the mixture forms a stable emulsion and begins to thicken.

7. Prepare the Purple Pigment

Disperse the ultramarine purple pigment in a small amount of suitable oil or soap batter.

This helps prevent pigment clumps.

8. Add the Color

Add the dispersed pigment to the whole batch or only part of the soap batter.

You can create:

  • Solid lavender soap
  • Purple swirls
  • Two-tone designs
  • Layered soap

9. Add Lavender Essential Oil

Add the lavender essential oil at the appropriate stage and mix gently until evenly distributed.

Avoid excessive blending if the batter is already beginning to thicken quickly.

10. Pour Into the Mold

Transfer the soap batter into a suitable soap mold.

11. Add Dried Lavender

If desired, sprinkle a small amount of dried lavender over the surface.

Avoid using excessive quantities.

12. Allow to Harden

Leave the soap until it is sufficiently firm to unmold.

This usually takes approximately 24–48 hours, although formulation and room temperature can affect the timing.

13. Cut and Cure

Remove the soap from the mold and cut it into individual bars if necessary.

Place the bars in a dry and well-ventilated environment.

Allow approximately 4–6 weeks of curing before regular use.

Why Is Curing Important?

During curing:

  • Excess water evaporates
  • The bar becomes harder
  • Soap becomes more durable
  • Lather performance can improve
  • Overall use characteristics become more stable

Cold process soap should not be evaluated only immediately after unmolding.
