Mint Cold Process Soap Making Kit
Create Fresh and Aromatic Handmade Mint Soap
The Mint Cold Process Soap Making Kit is designed for anyone who wants to create fresh, aromatic and visually distinctive handmade soap using the traditional cold process method.
The kit combines a balanced vegetable oil blend with mint essential oil and indigo botanical powder to produce soap bars with a refreshing aromatic profile and naturally inspired blue-green tones.
The supplied oil and sodium hydroxide quantities are pre-calculated for the intended formulation, making this set a practical option for soap makers who understand the basic safety requirements of cold process soap production.
What’s Included?
920 g Pre-Blended Soap-Making Oils
The oil blend contains:
- Olive Oil
- Coconut Oil
- Castor Oil
- Vitamin E
Each ingredient contributes different properties to the finished soap.
Olive Oil
Olive oil helps create:
- Mild cleansing
- Creamy lather
- Smooth bar texture
- Traditional handmade soap character
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil contributes to:
- Soap hardness
- Cleansing performance
- Bubble formation
- Stronger lather
Castor Oil
Castor oil is commonly used to support:
- Foam stability
- Creamier lather
- Improved bubble structure
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is included in the oil blend as an antioxidant-supporting formulation ingredient.
Its primary role is related to the oil phase and formulation stability rather than functioning as a preservative for the finished soap.
Mint Essential Oil – 20 ml
The kit includes 20 ml of natural mint essential oil, providing a strong, fresh and cooling aromatic profile.
Mint essential oil is particularly suitable for soap concepts such as:
- Fresh body soaps
- Herbal soaps
- Summer soap collections
- Sport-inspired cleansing bars
- Botanical gift soaps
Because mint essential oils can produce a strong cooling sensation, they should always be used within suitable cosmetic limits.
Indigo Botanical Powder – 5 g
Indigo botanical powder is included to provide naturally inspired blue, blue-green or grayish tones depending on:
- Soap pH
- Amount used
- Oil composition
- Processing method
- Curing conditions
Natural botanical colorants do not always produce exactly the same shade from batch to batch.
Cold process soap is alkaline, so botanical colors can change significantly during saponification and curing.
Sodium Hydroxide – 131 g
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is the alkali required to convert the vegetable oils into soap through the saponification reaction.
The supplied amount is calculated for the included oil blend.
Do not change the oil quantity or sodium hydroxide amount unless the entire formula is recalculated.
Sodium Lactate – 5 g
Sodium lactate is included to help improve the early-stage firmness of cold process soap.
It can help with:
- Faster initial hardening
- Easier unmolding
- Cleaner cutting
- Improved bar firmness
Sodium lactate does not replace proper curing.
What Can You Make With This Kit?
Fresh Mint Soap
Create a simple handmade bar with a distinctive mint aroma.
Blue-Green Botanical Soap
Use the included indigo powder to experiment with naturally inspired shades.
Mint Swirl Soap
Divide the soap batter into colored and uncolored portions to create:
- Swirls
- Marble effects
- Layered bars
- Two-tone designs
Herbal Gift Soap
Once fully cured, finished bars can be packaged for:
- Handmade gift boxes
- Seasonal collections
- Events
- Boutique soap ranges
- Personal projects
Mint Essential Oil in Soap Making
Mint essential oil is known for its powerful aromatic profile.
Compared with many softer floral essential oils, a relatively small amount can create a noticeable fragrance.
In handmade soap, mint oil can contribute:
- Fresh aroma
- Cooling sensory character
- Herbal fragrance profile
- Strong product identity
However, higher concentration does not necessarily result in better soap.
Excessive mint essential oil can make a product uncomfortable for sensitive skin.
Important Note for Sensitive Skin
Mint essential oils may produce a strong cooling or tingling sensation.
For this reason, finished products may not be suitable for every sensitive skin type.
Extra care should be taken with products intended for:
- Sensitive skin
- Facial use
- Young children
- Very dry or irritated skin
The appropriate usage level should always be determined according to the exact essential oil specification and applicable cosmetic safety guidance.
Using Indigo in Cold Process Soap
Natural indigo-type botanical powders can create interesting color effects but require experimentation.
Possible final shades include:
- Pale blue
- Blue-gray
- Greenish blue
- Gray-green
- Deeper botanical tones
The exact color depends heavily on the formulation.
For more even dispersion, the powder can first be mixed with a small amount of suitable oil before being added to the soap batter.
Cold Process Soap Making
This kit is intended for the cold process soap-making method.
Cold process soap is produced by combining oils with a carefully calculated sodium hydroxide solution.
Because sodium hydroxide is highly corrosive before the reaction is complete, correct safety procedures are essential.
How to Use
1. Prepare Your Workspace
Before starting:
- Wear chemical-resistant gloves.
- Wear protective goggles.
- Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Keep children and pets away.
- Use suitable alkali-resistant equipment.
- Prepare all materials before beginning.
2. Prepare the Oil Blend
Place the supplied oil mixture into a suitable container.
Warm gently if required until all components are liquid and evenly blended.
Avoid unnecessary overheating.
3. Prepare the Lye Solution
Use the exact water quantity specified in the validated recipe supplied with the kit.
Slowly add sodium hydroxide to the water while stirring carefully.
Always add sodium hydroxide to water. Never pour water onto sodium hydroxide.
The mixture will become very hot.
Allow the lye solution to cool safely in a well-ventilated location.
4. Add Sodium Lactate
Once the lye solution has cooled sufficiently, add the sodium lactate according to the supplied recipe.
Stir carefully until evenly dissolved.
5. Combine the Oils and Lye Solution
When both phases reach the appropriate working temperature, carefully combine the lye solution with the oils.
6. Blend to Trace
Use a stick blender in short pulses, alternating with manual stirring.
Continue until the mixture reaches a stable emulsion and begins to thicken.
7. Prepare the Indigo Powder
Mix the indigo botanical powder with a small amount of suitable oil or soap batter.
This helps reduce clumping.
8. Add the Color
Add the dispersed indigo to:
- The entire soap batch, or
- Only part of the batter for decorative effects.
9. Add Mint Essential Oil
Add the mint essential oil at the appropriate usage level and mix gently.
Avoid excessive blending if the batter is already thickening.
10. Pour Into the Mold
Transfer the finished soap batter into a suitable soap mold.
11. Allow to Harden
Leave the soap undisturbed until firm enough to unmold.
This generally takes approximately 24–48 hours, although actual timing varies according to formulation and room temperature.
12. Cut and Cure
Remove the soap from the mold and cut it into bars if required.
Place the bars in a dry and well-ventilated environment.
Allow approximately 4–6 weeks of curing before regular use.
Why Is Curing Important?
During the curing period:
- Excess water evaporates
- Soap becomes harder
- Bars become more durable
- Lather can improve
- Overall performance becomes more stable
Proper curing is an essential part of cold process soap production.
